Touch and feel! Our tactile sense receives information (vibration, texture, temperature etc.) through our skin.
Example:
When we have a tactile sense that is developed we are able to distinguish physical characteristics about things we interact with and at the same time not be overwhelmed by these sensations that are constantly coming into our bodies. A optimally functioning tactile sense allows us to tell the difference between a soft pillow and a hard rock but allows us to wear clothing with a tag in the back, feel the tag is there but then forget about it and not be bothered by it continually throughout your day.
Playing with squishy, soft, hard, rough and smooth textured objects helps us activate our tactile sensory system and experience not just the familiar but a variety of feels!
There is lot to learn about our senses and how we receive and organize sensations. Click here to find some great resource materials to dig deeper.
